A woman is shot in the neck and killed, police say her husband pulled the trigger. Now FIFTY-ONE beagles need help!
That's right, 51.
Examiner.com reports Donnalyn Schroeder was found shot in Newfoundland, PA Sunday. That's in the northeast area of the state. She died an area hospital. Police says her husband, Bertrand Schroeder, claims the shooting was an accident, saying he "did a stupid thing by getting drunk and messing with a rifle."
The couple had 51 beagles. The Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale was forced to take the dogs in, even though it is already overcapacity.
The animal shelter says the beagles appear to be in good shape and friendly, even through state police say the home was "in a condition deplorable for both human and animal welfare." The shelter also says the beagles range in age from 3 months to 7 years.
The shelter now needs donations, volunteers and, eventually, people to adopt the dogs. They will all be spayed or neutered, dewormed, vaccinated and microchipped, and they will get flea and tick medicine.
If you can help in anyway, email the shelter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The shelter is located on 138 Miller Drive in Honesdale, PA, zip code 18431. Check out the website at www.dessinshelter.com .
