Almost Wordless Wednesday: My pets give me strength

I had one of those days at work Tuesday where I just wanted to go crawl somewhere and hide. By the end of the night I was tired, cranky and frazzled -- and then it turned out the day wasn't over quite yet.

I had to pass a little time between assignments, so I perused Pinterest. And I found this:

And it occurs to me -- that's exactly what I do.

I will come home and lie next to Lulu and Galadriel and just listen to them breathe and sigh and purr. Just having them with me is therapeutic.

I suppose I should want human companionship. But for now, this is all I need.

Do you find this kind of comfort in your pets?

  1. I do therapy work and indeed sleeping with your dog/cat, petting and being next to them IS good for you. It actually lowers your blood pressure and increases your serotonin levels. In fact, this is why more and more hospitals are having therapy dogs come do visits, because it produces a person's own natural 'feel good' chemicals which in turn promotes healing. So - when you are stressed, having a rough time or dealing with things, go on and pet your dog or cat, take a nap with them - WOOF!

  2. Animals can make everything feel better huh? I know that Boomer and Dottie always provide me comfort, even though they don't know it most of the time.

  3. Ma does the same thing, Ms. Christie. When she feels stressed out she cuddles up with me. I am not a big cuddler (believe it or not) but when Ma really needs it, I cuddle back (for a bit). It makes her feel so much better. You cuddle with Lule and Galadriel...and let your stress melt away.

    1. Lulu could tell I was upset today with something. She laid next to me and nuzzled me, and showed her belly for a rub. But then she decided I wasn't happy enough -- so she decided to walk into my lap and make me play.

  4. Human companionship is overrated. (JK... sort of.) But they are "companion animals" for a very good reason!

  5. Well..sometimes a dog and cat is all you need. They never judge you and love you for who you are. At least that's how I feel about my sapiens.

  7. I love this! I may be partial because the dog in the picture looks like my babies. But I do that with them all the time. Usually, I press my face against the top of their heads. I decided yesterday that Leo's head smells like tortillas.

  8. I love when I snuggle with my dog. I swear, better than any antidepressant ever. Happy Wordless Wednesday from the BlogPaws Blog Hop!

  9. You might want to put Galadriel on a diet, as she gets older she might develop diabetes and will most certainly develop pancreatic problems from being so obese.

    1. Thank you for your concern. Galadriel is already on a diet and has lost weight.

  10. My human mommy is so happy to read that another human likes to do this too. She's not crazy, at least not for lying down next to me and listening to me breathe. I have not doubt that you received the comfort you needed.

    1. I think Lulu thinks I'm strange though, I'm sure. But she seems to know when I need her.

  11. I draw comfort from Pepper all the time. Sometimes as part of her job, sometimes as part of a normal human/dog relationship.

  12. My mom just enjoys having us around her, looking at us, listening to the noises we make, it relaxes her too. People usually cause more trouble and making things calm.

  13. Oh now see! A great reason to invite my Aussies up into the bed! I'll just have to convince my Hunny that it's therapeutic.

  14. I loved pet sitting Avery, who lay next to me on the couch and in bed. I loved feeling his heartbeat and aligning my breath with his.
