VIDEO: Playing Keep Away with your dog

How does your dog greet you when you come home?

Sometimes, Lulu walks up with the nearest toy she can grab. Sometimes she gives it to me. Sometimes she immediately plays Tug of War. Sometimes she plays Keep Away.

It's fun to watch her decide which to do, because you can almost see her mind working. With Keep Away, she will walk up, toy in the mouth, tail wagging, and when I reach for it she suddenly turns her head, just enough to get the toy out of reach. Then she comes back to me. Then she does it again.

Smart dog. It means the play lasts longer.

But then she does this too -- the other night she brought me her sock monkey toy. And ever so sweetly she gave it to me. I threw it, she brought it back to me.

How does your dog play with you?

  1. Sophie does the same thing as Lulu! When we come home, she grabs the first toy she can, runs up to us and then plays coy when we try to grab it or pet her. But she comes back, over and over until she jumps on the couch and waits for us to come over and greet her. What a princess, right? LOL

  4. So sweet. Mine would rather cuddle than play when I've been gone for awhile, so it looks like I'm missing out on something special!
