Apopka's Club Lake Plantation full of dog-friendly fall fun

Looking for some fall fun with your pet. This feature I wrote for Barkpost has some great fall/Halloween activities you can do with your dog. 25 of them, in fact.
And for us Central Floridians, this great month-long festival is going on right now!

Lulu had a blast exploring Club Lake Plantation in Apopka, near Orlando.

Club Lake Plantation is a tree farm in Apopka. They have a beautiful wedding pavilion too.

The plantation also hosts this fall festival.  There's a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay rides, a pumpkin slingshot, rubber ducky races, a big ol' playground for the kids and more. And it all surrounds a lovely lake with lilypads.

And the best part is, dogs can come!

So my friend and I loaded Lulu and Jasmine for a weekday trip.

First, the obligatory pumpkin patch shot.

Club Lake Plantation in Central Florida has a dog-friendly corn maze to get lost in.
Then we went into the corn maze!

We kind of let the dogs decide where we were going at first. Then we realized we might be getting lost. So we took the reins.

Then we took a walk up past the corn maze and grabbed some pics at the lake.

Back at "The Cow Palace," you can buy some great homemade (and Amish-made!) snacks to take home. There's also a snack bar cookin' up hot dogs and this amazing homemade lemonade. Yum.

Club Lake Plantation's Fall Festival is open 6 days a week during October -- closed on Mondays. On the weekends it's $13.95 a person, but during the week it's sometimes cheaper.

Dogs are free, as long as they're friendly, on their leash and they've done their business before they get to the plantation. Of course, accidents do happen, but be sure to pick up after your dog! Bring bags!

Your dog will have a tail-wagging time at Club Lake Plantation
If your dog isn't big on lots of people, you might love it during the week. There were few people there, and we had the whole corn maze to ourselves.

  1. I love dog friendly events. I think the best things we can do can do to see more of them them is write about them and help promote them them so people realize there is a market for them.

Say thank you if you come across people who are running the events. They get lots of complaints, but positive feedback is always welcome.

Lastly and most importantly dog owners need to demonstrate we can keep our dogs under control and clean up after ourselves in public. It only takes a few idiots to ruin it for the rest of us who do act responsibly and we all lose the chance to bring our pets with us. Poop backs are not optional. This is a huge complaint when people bring dogs to community events. We need to encourage those who forget to remember.

If your dog isn't good in crowds, don't ruin everyone else's chance to enjoy public events by causing a problem. This is also an excuse used to exclude dogs at public events. There are too many dog owner's who know they can't control their dogs in public and still bring them out because Fido is lonely at home and might do better this time. If you haven't worked on Fido's aggression issues, leave Fido at home for his sake and the rest of the owners who do have public friendly dogs.

Also, even for those of us who have public friendly dogs, never ASSSUME people are watching their children and will control them around your dogs. Always take control of the situation and protect your dogs from the kids. The punishments for your dog reacting even to a violent child can be severe. Your dog's best protection is your vigilance in watching all interactions between your dog and children and even clueless adults that attend these events.

    1. Agreed. And a lesson I learned after BlogPaws. Lulu is usually pretty good, except if she's on leash and sees a big dog she will bark. Now usually at outdoor events it's not a problem because there are so many dogs. But for some reason at BlogPaws she was overwhelmed.

But Jasmine stays home. She just is not secure and she will snap.

  4. How cool is that?!? And how hilarious that your little scent hounds led you astray. Maybe more people need to walk through it in order to lay down a sniffer map!
