What do you look for when you buy a home?
Right number of bedrooms? Open kitchen? Nice appliances? Good neighborhood?
Here's what I look for:
Good place to put a litter box? Fenced-in backyard? Flooring vs. carpets? Good place to put in a dog wash?
Yes, I'm buying a house. That's why I've been relatively quiet here the last month or so.
It's my first house, so I'm kind of excited. I'm using Pinterest to find all kinds of great house decorating ideas. (By the way, are you following me on Pinterest? Check out my boards!)
Like this pet storage closet from Better Homes and Gardens:
Or this cat room. One house I looked at had custom shelves up high in the living room. Wouldn't they be perfect for something like this?
How about some great dog bed ideas? Like this Murphy Bed:
Though who am I kidding? Lulu will just sleep on the bed as always.
Here are a few more great ideas from Better Homes and Gardens. They include what type of paint to use, easy pet food storage and how to secure windows.
Meanwhile, check out this list of important things to consider when buying a house from Realtor.com.

I try to keep Cody & Sierra off the beds and chairs, but it's a battle I can't win. We use "dog blankets" that they have to be on top of.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Lulu has pillows on the couch. She is not so much the problem as the cat. The cat has no boundaries, and damn you if you try to instill some. Getting a new couch, and I'm gonna need something to protect it from her!
DeleteCongratulations! We looked for floor to ceiling windows for the dogs :-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't think about that. But I dunno. They make me uncomfortable.
DeleteWe lived in a house that had floor to ceiling windows and the dogs loved it. I actually think it was better, than having them put their feet on the window sills all the time. We need to redo ours because of dog feet! Also, our beagle mix figured out that the fourth stair provided excellent viewing of the neighborhood and kept him close to the door when we were gone. So I had one stair full of beagle hair all the time!
DeleteJust had to put my dog down. I felt so lucky to be able to have veterans come to my home and help with this. She helped me find the closure I needed in saying goodbye to a beloved companion.
