10 silly dogs for National Dog Day

Happy National Dog Day!

To celebrated, we selected 10 of the funniest, silliest dogs we've seen!

But first, lets talk about why this day is important! (Besides loving dogs!)

Did you know: National Dog Day was founded in 2004 to shine a light on rescue dogs in this country? It's been 11 years, and some progress has been made, but more is needed.

An estimated 29 percent of cats and dogs are adopted from shelters each year, according to the American Pet Products Association.

According to ASPCA, 3.9 million dogs enter the animal shelters each year, but 1.2 million are euthanized.

To learn ways you can help your area shelters or rescues for National Dog Day, head to the National Dog Day website.

Now, here are 10 of the funniest, silliest (and sweetest) dogs shared by our friends on the Life With Beagle's Facebook page and Twitter account. (Psssst! You should follow us there!)

1. When your new dad is awesome.
"This is Dagny! She is a rescue pup who is very cautious of strangers, but oh so loyal to those she loves. I had her for years before I met my husband - but the two of them bonded right away. They truly love each other! Sometimes I am the third wheel! Haha! But I wouldn't have it any other way!" (PHOTO/Candice Noble Goldman)

2. Perfect House hosts.
"This is Sasha and Echo. I love how Sasha sings to me when I get home from work. And I love how Echo must kiss those who were already home so they don't feel left out of the love." (PHOTO/Heather Condon)

3. "Every move you make... I'll be watching you."
"This is Ginger. She's my pal. I adopted her during a lonely time in my life and while she has her rotten side, she loves her mama! Fun fact...in the first year of owning her I replaced over 25 sets of blinds! Ginger doesn't like it when mom is outside and Ginger can't see her-she destroys the house!" (PHOTO/Meghan Brake)

4. Beagles are better with bacon!
"Fat Louie. My husband has trained him that when they go to Burger King to howl for bacon at the drive thru window." (PHOTO/Suzee Mein)

5. Sometimes it's self-explanatory.
"Well just look at Ricky...that's my funny/silly reason I love him!" (PHOTO/Jan Todd)

6. Regaining trust.
"Our boy Scooter was a dumped and neglected hunting dog and took years to trust humans. Now he runs to us and is a major love bug and even helps the other rescued beagles to trust us humans too!" (PHOTO/Robyn Pass Handy)

7. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.
"This is Jill Bella Ferraro. She is a 6 year old that we adopted in March. Her big brother Bart is an almost 12 year old geriatric lab spaniel mix that wears a diaper. This has been confusing to Jill because she figures if he can go to the bathroom in the house...so can she. So we had to get her a diaper...that lasted one day. She did not care for it one bit...but she looked adoreable!!!" (PHOTO/Melissa Ferraro)

8. Not even age can stop me.
"My beautiful 16-year-old Britney, she talks to us and always follows me around the house." (PHOTO/Cora G. Meakins)

9. Routine is important to dogs.
"This is Mouse our Beagle Terrier waiting for my husband to come home. She does this every night!" (PHOTO/Diane Simonis)

10. This dog's a ninja.

"Artie loves to wear costumes. Bark for Life Ninja." He kicked cancer's butt with his ninja skills. Go Artie! (PHOTO/@HarleyRDK07)

    1. I put out calls last night on Twitter and Facebook. Most of the people who follow me on Facebook are BEAGLE people. I tried to choose based on the pics and stories I liked best though.
